Titanium and nickel-based alloys are used when strength, corrosion resistance or high-temperature performance justify the extra manufacturing difficulty. They generate heat, consume tools quickly and often require more conservative cutting conditions, making feasibility and process planning especially important before production.

Why Early Feasibility Review Matters
With difficult-to-machine alloys, the drawing can matter as much as the material name. Deep features, restricted tool access, thin walls and tight tolerances can change cycle time and process selection dramatically.
Material grade & condition — Confirm exact alloy, heat-treatment state and material specification.
Geometry & tool access — Deep pockets, long-reach features and restricted access may require different setups or processes.
Tolerance & surface finish — Critical fits and fine surfaces can change the machining sequence and inspection plan.
Quantity — Prototype and repeat production may justify different tooling and fixturing choices.
Heat, Tool Life & Process Stability
Titanium and many nickel alloys keep more heat near the cutting edge and impose higher cutting loads than common aluminum or steel grades.
Tool management — Tool wear is monitored closely because a worn edge can quickly affect heat, dimensions and finish.
Heat control — Cutting conditions and coolant delivery are selected to remove heat from the cutting zone.
Rigid workholding — Stable support helps control vibration and cutting load on demanding features.
Finishing & Treatment Options
Cleaning or passivation where applicable, polishing, bead blasting, heat treatment and specialty coatings can be coordinated according to the specified alloy and drawing requirements.
