Supplementary note: 5xxx alloys are commonly used for corrosion-resistant plate work; 6xxx alloys for versatile machining and cosmetic parts; 2xxx / 7xxx alloys where higher strength is a stronger design driver.

What Matters When Machining Aluminum


The best aluminum parts are planned with the final condition in mind. Thin sections can move during machining, cosmetic faces can be damaged by handling, and anodizing can affect fit-critical dimensions.

Thin-wall & flatness control — Fixturing, machining sequence and stock removal are planned to reduce distortion.

Clean edges & burr control — Tool condition and cutting strategy are managed around holes, slots and intersecting features.

Anodizing allowance — Critical fits, threads, masking areas and coating build-up can be reviewed before anodizing.
